What you need to know:

  • I’m disappointed that I do not have any weird rituals! I just warm up my voice and body,  and do nothing but calm my nerves and get into the state of mind to perform.

Prisca Ojwang’ is a 25-year-old Sauti Academy alumni. You have probably heard her first single, ‘Lies I told me’.

She has performed on local and international stages, such as Blankets and Wine and Mother City Live Festival in South Africa, alongside Maia Von Lekow, Ricky na Marafiki and Zahara.

“Learn from those who have been there.”

What’s the first rule of music?

Music business? Education. Learn from those who have been there, research and insert creativity and feeling.

Do you actually use those cheesy pick up lines on people, the ones you use during your concerts?

Ha! They are tried and tested, but not by me. I tried once, though. They laughed.

Where can we watch you soon?

You can catch me at Thursday Night Live at Choices on 28th April, and a concert at the end of May this year, and videos I plan to release in the middle of the year.

You’ve been to Uganda and South Africa in the last six months for concerts. Which one was your favourite?

Uganda, but only because I was more immersed in the art scene. Uganda’s scene is lit! So vibrant! But to be fair to South Africa, my time there was packed with a bunch of projects I had to do in a short time, so there was less time to soak up the scene.

Speaking of concerts, any weird pre-concert rituals?

I’m disappointed that I do not have any weird rituals! I just warm up my voice and body,  and do nothing but calm my nerves and get into the state of mind to perform.
