What you need to know:

  • This comedic series is based on the writer and producer's own life, which makes it quite funny.
  • If you enjoyed the 80s, then you'll love all the pop culture references to old games that don't exist

I know this is an old one, but the thing is, there are so many things to watch and see that I haven't watched. Sometimes it takes me quite a bit of time to catch up, even after I've asked on my Twitter for recommendations and all.

This comedic series, was recommended to me quite a while ago, and only when getting on a flight with a tiresome in-flight entertainment menu did it occur to me to try this one that I had never seen.

Why is it that in-flight entertainment almost always insists on not starting in Season 1? If I've never watched this show, I certainly don't want to start from Season 16. And if I have, I'm not going to let a flight interrupt my flow, now am I?

This comedic series is based on the writer and producer's own life, which makes it quite funny. Everything is funny, or better, or more meaningful, when it is based on real life – and in this case, real footage.

HILARIOUS

At the end of many of the episodes, he puts up clips of his actual family, sometimes based on what inspired that particular episode. It's hilarious to see how close the actual family members look in relation to the actors portraying them.

The Goldbergs are a family in typical 1980s America, with an overprotective mom, a football coach dad, and their three kids, having moved to a new neighbourhood because of their dad's new job.

There's typical adolescence, and almost adolescence, fighting with the parents, trying to get freedom and not be kissed by their overprotective mom everyday or being yelled at by their oblivious dad, embarrassing incidents caught on VCR, restaurant battles and nosy neighbours all packaged into a picket fence comedy.

If you enjoyed the 80s, then you'll love all the pop culture references to old games that don't exist, movies that were so hot back in the day and of course, footloose tights and off-shoulder top.
