Africans cast their votes in the 2014 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) and one notable winner was Kenya’s’ talented trio Elani, who have been rocking the airwaves for a year now since their debut with the single “Jana Usiku”.
Elani managed to bag the Best African Pop Award at the red carpet event in Lagos, Nigeria, where Nigeria’s finest, Davido, emerged as the biggest winner of the night, taking home four awards.
Elani emerged top after battling it out against South Africa’s Mafikizolo and P-Square of Nigeria who are among the crème de le crème of African groups reigning on the continent.
The group took to social media to share the exemplary moment with their fans by thanking all those who voted for them.

Other Kenyan artistes who were nominated for the awards included songbird Wahu, rapper and entrepreneur Muthoni Donga, The Drummer Queen and Size 8, who were all competing for the Best East African Female Artist e Award that was scooped by Tanzanian singer Vanessa Madee.
Kenya had 14 nominations in different categories and the nominees included Sauti Sol, Jimmy Gaits and Pitson.
Bonga flava prince, the flamboyant Diamond Platinumz, walked away with Tanzania’s’ second award of the night, winning the Best East African Male Artist Award and beating Kidum Kibido and fellow countryman and former Tusker Project Fame finalist Peter Msechu.
