British actor Idris Elba has caused waves online after he was named People’s sexiest man of 2018.
People, a weekly magazine in the US, unveiled Elba in their cover this week. A smiling Elba posed for the cover in a beige cardigan, white T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans.
When news was out that Elba had been selected, a flurry of tweets went up with people giving their views on why he is “the sexiest man”, while other tweets appreciated and congratulated him. The phrase ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ was trending following the announcement.

The actor took to Twitter to thank People magazine for naming him the sexiest man of 2018, while at the same time urging people to buy the magazine and to vote in the US midterm elections.
Elba is a British citizen born to a Ghanaian mother and a father from Sierra Leone. He has starred in several British and American productions, and is also a singer. Elba has acted in Beasts of No Nation, Thor, Bastille Day, Takers, and several others including the 2009 drama Obsessed in which he starred with Beyoncé Knowles. He also stars as detective John Luther in the British drama series “Luther”.
Elba has a flair for taking on various accents depending on his role and despite having grown up in London, he can pull off an American accent in movies.
