As the joy of festivities engulfs the country, a family in Nairobi is agonising over the whereabouts of their daughter, who disappeared on Thursday morning and has not been traced to date.

Ms Muthoni Muiruri, 20, the last born in a family of three and a First Year law student at Mt Kenya University Parklands campus left the school on Thursday morning and has not been seen since then.

Her brother Edwin Wanyoike says she left the school and boarded a matatu headed to the city centre.

PHONE CALL

Mr Wanyoike said he received a call from one of his sister’s friends that very morning, who informed him that she was behaving “abnormally” and had ran out of school.

“She told her friends during a group discussion that some people were after her. She then packed her books and took them to her room and left the school while running,” Mr Wanyoike said.

UNABLE TO REACH HER

Since then, her relatives have been unable to reach her on her cell phone because she left it in her room.

Her father, Mr Stanley Muiruri, said her daughter did not have any known problems and looked fine when she was last home on December 8.

Mr Muiruri said on Wednesday, his wife talked with their daughter at 9pm for about four minutes and everything was fine.

“I heard them talking and my wife asked her whether everything is going on well with the exam, which she answered in the affirmative,” Mr Muiruri said.

STRANGER'S CALL

On Friday, the family received a call from a stranger who told them he had seen their daughter at Chicken Inn near Oil Libya in Nairobi’s Westlands area.

According to Ms Muiruri’s brother, the person told them the young girl looked confused and asked him for chips and Sh10.

“The person told us he gave her chips and then she disappeared,” Mr Wanyoike said.

Since then, the family said they have camped in Westlands where she was spotted hoping to spot her but in vain.

The family reported the matter at Parklands Police Station and was recorded under OB number 20/21/12/18.
