Police recovered six shotguns and 100,000 rounds of ammunition from a hardware shop owned by a businessman in Narok town Tuesday.

The weapons were found after a six-hour joint operation by police officers from Narok and Nairobi.

The night long operation was led by Narok OCPD Mr Charles Okweya and began at around 9pm after a tip-off from a member of the public.

Among other military ware recovered were 10 pairs of British army uniforms and several pairs of military boots.
Gun oil and pieces of clothes believed to be used during servicing of weapons were also among the cache.

Angry residents

The businessman, Mr Munir Ishmael, claimed to be licensed to possess the weaponry but according to Mr Okweya no individual can be licensed to own several guns and ammunition.

Some residents were annoyed by the turn of events and threatened to burn down the businessman’s premises but they were dispersed by the police.

“We are continuing with investigations to establish the extent the weapons have infiltrated in this town as we cannot rule out the fact that there could be more weapons in people’s hands,” said Mr Okweya.

Mr Ishmael was escorted under tight security to Nairobi for further questioning.
