Hunt on for 7 remandees who escaped from Thika police cells

Police in Thika have launched a manhunt for seven drug trafficking and robbery with violence suspects who escaped from Makongeni police station on Thursday.

The suspects cut off the cell's ventilation grills at around 4am and fled on motorcycles, police reports showed.

At the time of the escape, the cells were holding 21 remandees.

Five of the suspects were being held on allegations of robbery with violence while the other two were suspected drug dealers.

Thika OCPD Paul Karobia did not comment on the matter, simply saying he was on leave. ​
