A man who pretended to be an Al-Shabaab member has been charged with giving false information and creating alarm.

Mr Kevin Kiliti alias Hussein Omar, 29, was charged on Wednesday for claiming he was an Al-Shabaab member.

But the suspect blamed his 'false' confession on drugs, saying he told police he was planning attacks in Nairobi while under the influence of the powerful narcotic marijuana.

During his appearance at the Milimani Law Courts, Mr Kitili was also charged with claiming that he had travelled to Somalia.

If convicted for giving false information, Mr Kitili faces up to three years behind bars.

According to the prosecutor, Mr Kitili told the police at Lehley police roadblock in Wajir on January 1, 2019, that he and “other terrorists” were planning to attack vital installations in Nairobi.

Police asked for more time to interrogate him.
