Senators have accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i of dragging his feet instead of arresting two local musicians behind a song whose contents are derogatory and capable of causing inter-ethnic animosity.

Siaya Senator James Orengo accused Dr Matiang’i of being selective in the administration of law.

“Matiang’i should give a statement to assure the country that the government is not dealing with the issue with double standards,” said Mr Orengo.

Senate majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen said the government is taking the matter seriously and the video, which has gone viral, will be pulled down.

The video is said to have followed a move by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu to ban charcoal trade in the county.

Wiper party Tuesday affirmed its support for the ban by county governments in Ukambani region, in the wake of the video portraying the Kamba community in negative light.

The party said in a press statement the composers of the video as well as its producers were “keen on creating inter-ethnic animosity between Kambas and their Kikuyu neighbours”.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission said it had launched investigations into the origin of the video.
