Cabinet secretaries sworn in at State House

  • President Uhuru Kenyatta warned the Cabinet secretaries against laxity and non-performance.

The nine new Cabinet secretaries were sworn in on Friday morning at State House, Nairobi, in the presence of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The President urged them to be guardians of public resources and prudently use taxpayers' money for the benefit of all Kenyans.

After they were sworn in, President Uhuru Kenyatta congratulated the new CSs but also warned against laziness.

He told them there would be no room for laxity in his new Cabinet and those who fail to deliver would be sent packing.

The President said Kenyans expect an open, transparent and accountable government and the CSs should work towards that.

He added that citizens also want a government that is "easily accessible, responsive and committed to excellence."

“This might also be the appropriate time to say that should you, at any time, feel the weight is too much, just say so, and we will find another deserving Kenyan to take your place,” President Kenyatta said.

The swearing-in was conducted by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua. Deputy President William Ruto was present.

Legislators approved them for appointment on Wednesday, following vetting that ran from February 8- .

  • Keriako Tobiko – Environment and Forestry

  • Rashid Mohammed – Sports and Heritage

  • Ukur Yattani – Labour and Social Protection

  • Peter Munya – East African Community
