Two clergymen have been charged with attempting to defraud a church its land in Kayole, Nairobi.

Bishop William Nyamu Joseph, Pastor John Njeru Ndungo of Kenya Redeemed Church, were charged alongside a contractor Andrew Gitonga M’Taramba, businesswoman Mellon Ng’endo Maina and Ms Florence Wanjiru Tiras before Senior Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku at the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday.

The suspects were accused of conspiring to defraud Kenya Redeemed Church of its land in Kayole on diverse dates between January 1 and October 15, 2012.

They were accused of pretending that they had the authority to sell the land, a fact they all knew was false.

They denied three counts of conspiracy to defraud, making a special power of attorney document and a sale agreement.

The suspects were released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 each.

Trial will resume on December 5.
