  • The EACC and specialised courts should embrace technology in recording court proceedings.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has said that the department will be holding pre-trial conferences where weak areas would be trashed before taking cases to court.

Commenting on televangelist James Ng’ang’a who was recently acquitted of dangerous driving which caused the death of Mercy Njeri, Mr Haji said his office is taking the matter seriously and would be seeking audience with Chief Justice David Maraga on the issue.

“Though we have appealed against the acquittal, I will institute an inquiry on how that particular judgment was made. It is a sensitive issue that we have to deal with and will pick up the matter with the CJ,” he said.

CORRUPTION
Mr Haji spoke when he closed a five-day workshop organised by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) on fortifying a collaborative approach in the fight against corruption.

It was officially opened Mr Maraga on Tuesday.

The workshop which brought together the office of the DPP, the Judiciary, Financial Reporting Centre and the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority, sought to facilitate an open dialogue on how to deal with corruption.

Mr Haji said though it would be hard to completely eliminate instances of acquittals in corruption-related cases, his office would work closely with all stakeholders in the criminal justice system.

Among the resolutions reached by participants was that the anti-corruption court and specialised courts should embrace technology in recording court proceedings.
