A retired judge has termed as a witch-hunt the radical surgery to weed out corruption in the Judiciary in 2003.

Justice Daniel Aganyanya said the judicial purge aimed at linking “innocent” judges to corruption.

“I was one of the officials named for investigation by the Justice Ringera-led commission. I thought Ringera would unearth the mistakes in the Judiciary but that was not to be,” he told journalists at his Jeptulu home in Hamisi Sub County on Tuesday.

Although the Akiwumi Tribunal acquitted him of wrong doing, the retired judge said the commission’s report wrongly linked him to corruption.

Justice Aganyanya, who has written a book titled The Judicial Purge 2003 — That Never Was, said one prosecutor confided in him that he was coerced into accusing him of taking a Sh900,000 bribe.

He retired in 2012 after serving in the Judiciary for 39 years.
