Detectives in Kilifi County have launched investigations into the death of a University of Nairobi law student.

On Saturday, Kilifi Directorate of Criminal Investigation boss Christopher Chesoli said pathologists found sea water in 25-year-old Dennis Munene's stomach.

"The post-mortem shows that the young man drowned and he was not murdered.

"That is why we have shifted our focus to know what led to the drowning. We would want to know if he was pushed into the creek or if he did it himself," Mr Chesoli said.

Munene went missing two weeks ago in Kasarani, Nairobi, and his body was found by Mtwapa police at La Marina Beach on May 12 following an alert by a village elder.

The body was taken from Coast General Provincial Hospital mortuary in Mombasa to their family home in Kirinyaga on Friday.
