Four killed in Utawala plane crash

Four people were killed on Wednesday morning after a cargo plane crashed into two buildings and burst into flames in the Utawala area in Nairobi.

Two watchmen were injured in the incident. One was treated and discharged while the other was admitted at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

Nairobi County police commander Benson Kibue said the accident, involving a plane belonging to Skyward International LTD, occurred around 4am.

“The plane crash-landed and burst into flames, four occupants were killed and we are combing through the debris to find out if there are more,” he said.

The plane crashed into two commercial buildings.

Mr Kibue said the plane, with registration number 5Y-CET, had taken off from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and was ferrying cargo to Mogadishu, Somalia.
