Godec urges Uhuru, Raila to go beyond handshake

Outgoing US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has called on President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga to go beyond the handshake and deal with challenges bedevilling the country.

The US envoy cited governance issues, corruption, protecting institutions and ensuring service delivery.

“The United States will be there supporting the process of actualising the handshake provided it is inclusive and is dealing with the real issues out there,” said Mr Godec.

Mr Godec was speaking at Kisii County government offices where he had visited Governor James Ongwae with an aim of increasing partnership between the American and Kisii people.
