Gunmen kill Mumias Sugar manager in cold blood

Armed men have shot and killed a Mumias Sugar Company legal officer.

Ronald Lubya was killed at his rural home in Matungu constituency, Kakamega County, on Sunday night.

ELIMINATION

He was shot in the head and was rushed to St Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Western region police chief Moses Ombati on Monday said the attackers went to Mr Lubya’s home at Ingosi Village at 10pm and shot him in his car at close range.

The attackers, he said, appear to have been on a mission to eliminate Mr Lubya.

After the shooting, the gangsters dragged Mr Lubya’s body into the house and started harassing his wife, demanding cash from her.

“They ransacked the house, harassed and beat up his wife before escaping in Mr Lubya’s vehicle, which has not been recovered,” said Mr Ombati.

BLOOD

A maid who heard screams from the home alerted neighbours, who called in police.

Mr Ombati said police officers rushed to the home and found Mr Lubya lying in a pool of blood.

“He was rushed to hospital but unfortunately passed on while receiving treatment,” the police chief said.

Police are investigating the motive of the killing and are hunting for the gang.

PROFILE

“We are exploring all angles to this murder since Mr Lubya had constructed a new house after buying land at the place,” said Mr Ombati.

According to information on the company website, Mr Lubya joined Mumias on July 1, 2015.

“He is well versed in legal management and corporate governance spanning across various organisations including Safaricom, Flashcom, Diageo [EABL] and Standard Media Group,” his profile reads in part.

“He holds [a bachelor] of commerce degree from Karnatak University, a post graduate degree in law from the same university and is a certified public secretary."

The website said he was pursuing an MBA at KCA University.
