What you need to know:

  • The place offers magnificent views of Lake Elementaita and beyond as it is at the top of a hill, giving an illusion of what the Biblical heaven must look like.

  • Occasionally, visitors come across children playing hide-and-seek and other games on expansive lawns which are set away from the prayer halls and guest rooms.

You have probably heard of Nakuru’s Hell’s Gate, the famous tourist site, numerous times but have you ever heard of the little known Heaven’s Gate in Gilgil?

Heaven’s Gate, also in Nakuru County, overlooks Lake Elementaita and is an exciting place that is managed by a church.

At this tranquil spot, Christians can spend a few days fasting and praying undisturbed.

HIDE-AND-SEEK

The place offers magnificent views of Lake Elementaita and beyond as it is at the top of a hill, giving an illusion of what the Biblical heaven must look like.

Complete with beautiful lawns, guest houses, a hall for prayers, watch towers and the beautiful landscaping, the place is like a magnet to pilgrims in search of a calm spot to pray or fast.

Occasionally, visitors come across children playing hide-and-seek and other games on expansive lawns which are set away from the prayer halls and guest rooms.

This was a deliberate decision to keep the children at play shattering the sombre, prayerful mood for the pilgrims.

To enjoy nature in this one-of-a-kind serene spot, visitors must not miss the beautiful sunset.

Nature enthusiasts will have plenty of time gazing at the fiery red orb of light as it slowly sinks beneath the horizon with threads of light in rolling clouds, creating an amazing sight of purplish grey patches and a ruby-red glow at the same time.

Unlike the well known Hell’s Gate, most of whose attractions were naturally formed, here the attractions are created by man.

Though construction is still in progress, the site is open to visitors.
