  • Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said the lawyer had been arrested by police on Sunday night on suspicion of driving while drunk.

Human rights lawyer Harun Ndubi was on Monday charged with failing to comply with police instructions and causing obstruction.

The lawyer denied the charges in a Nairobi court and was granted Sh30,000 cash bail.

ARREST

He was arrested on Jakaya Kikwete Road at 8.45pm on Sunday.

Earlier, Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome told the Nation that the lawyer had been arrested by police on Sunday night on suspicion of driving while drunk.

He dismissed claims the activist was drugged.

“He [Mr Ndubi] parked the vehicle in the middle of the road…he slept in the vehicle…[he was] very drunk,” Mr Koome told the Nation.
