Jubilee axes Veronica Maina as secretary-general

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has appointed its head of secretariat Raphael Tuju to double up as its secretary-general in wide-ranging changes made on Tuesday.

Former Secretary-General Veronica Maina has been named as the party’s deputy chair in charge of strategy.

Newly named chairman of the National Elections Board, lawyer Lumatete Muchai, has been moved to chair the party’s disciplinary committee.

Lawyer Andrew Musangi has been named the new head of the elections board.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Vice President Faith Waigwa has been named as the chairman of the party’s Appeals Tribunal.

The changes were made after a National Executive Committee meeting at State House, Nairobi, chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta, in attendance of Deputy President William Ruto.

STORMY WATER

In his speech, President Kenyatta thanked Mrs Maina for what he said was exceptional service as secretary-general.

“I want to thank Veronica who navigated the stormy water of bringing parties together. It was not easy, and we appreciate the effort you put,” President Kenyatta said.

The changes come at a time the party is preparing to handle crucial nominations next month.
