Kenneth Matiba service to draw crowds

A large crowd of mourners is expected at Kenneth Matiba’s memorial service on Wednesday, following an invitation to Kenyans to escort the body to All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.

His son, Raymond, said all are welcome to the memorial and funeral services, State functions to be held on Wednesday and Thursday.

Speaking to journalists at Harambee House Monday, the planning committee for Mr Matiba’s funeral, comprising  government officials and  his children, called on Kenyans to give the former minister a hero’s send-off.

PROCESSION

“Those who want to follow the procession we have on Wednesday: from Lee Funeral Homewe shall turn right, heading towards Haile Selassie Avenue and then from there we shall go through Uhuru Park and then to All Saints Cathedral,” Cabinet Secretary for Transport, James Macharia,  a member of the planning committee, told journalists.

The church, which has a seating capacity of 1,500, is expected to be full, and those who intend to attend the memorial service are advised  to be seated by 10 am, half an hour before  the ceremony starts.

FUNERAL SERVICE

On Thursday, the body will leave Lee Funeral home for  Ihura Stadium in Murang’a County for the funeral service. Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata, also a member of the committee, promised that the veteran politician and former Kiharu Member of Parliament would receive a hero’s welcome at Murang’a on Thursday.
