Kenya Power Managing Director Ken Tarus has surrendered himself to the police.

In a tweet, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said Dr Tarus surrendered himself to their headquarters on Sunday evening and was being held at Muthaiga Police Station.

He is among former and current senior managers of the power firm being sought over corruption allegations involving millions of shillings.

DEFECTIVE TRANSFORMERS

Others who are yet to be arrested are general managers Joshua Mutua (Commercial Services), Samuel Ndirangu (Information Communications Technology), Abubakar Swaleh (Human Resource and Administration), Stanley Mutwiri (Infrastructure Development) and Benson Muriithi (Network Management).

The Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji ordered the arrest of the firm’s managers over procurement of defective transformers and irregularities in prequalifying 525 companies for labour and transport contracts.

DEFEAT JUSTICE

Those who have been arrested so far include former Managing Director Dr Ben Chumo, Beatrice Meso (Company Secretary) and Peter Mwichigi (GM Regional Coordination). 

Former general managers, John Ombui (Supply Chain) and Peter Mungai Kinuthia (Business Strategy), have also arrested.

They are set to be charged with conspiracy to defraud contrary to section 317 of the penal code, conspiracy to commit an offence of economic crime contrary to Section 47 A (3), abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with law relating to procurement and conspiracy to defeat justice.
