The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has condemned the killing of lawyer Robert Chesang who was gunned down in his Athi River house on Sunday afternoon.

Responding to the incident on Monday, LSK’s lower eastern chairman Justus Mutia said the incident was unfortunate and called for speedy investigations.

"I … urge the investigation agencies to act with speed to unravel the circumstances under which our colleague was killed and let all the culprits be brought to book," said Mr Mutia.

According to the police report, Chesang was shot dead in his house at Moke Gardens at 12:30pm.

Police said they found seven used bullet cartridges and an AK-47 rifle on the house floor after locals alerted them of gunshot sounds.

The officers had to jump over a locked gate to access his house. The report said the house door was locked from the inside.

"They peeped through the sitting room window and saw an unknown male adult lying in a pool of blood. It was established that the deceased lived alone in the house,” said the police report.

The lawyer’s body was taken to Shalom Hospital mortuary.
