The Law Society of Kenya has given two security chiefs an ultimatum of two weeks to voluntarily resign from office failure to which they will start a judicial or constitutional process to remove them from office.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the LSK Chairman Eric Mutua said both the Inspector General David Kimaiyo and Interior CS Joseph Ole Lenku were either incapacitated or the wrong personnel for the security docket.

‘The spate of attacks witnessed in the last three months is is testimony that the two individuals have either no control of the security situation or are the wrong personnel,’ read part of the statement.

It continued, "unless they resign from office in 14 days, LSK shall either initiate a judicial or constitutional process for their removal from office."

The society noted that the recent Mpeketoni attack was an indication that security systems in the country are either incompetent or incapacitated.

This comes even as leaders urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack security heads for failing to secure the country.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale urged President Kenyatta to act speedily on the country’s security system while Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale called on Interior CS Joseph Ole Lenku to resign for failing to prevent terror attacks.

The Sunday attack in the village left 48 dead and several others injured after gunmen entered the village, attacked the police station and shot men at close range.

Security chiefs addressed the nation during a press conference blaming the attack on incitement while sending warning to politicians uttering inciting messages.

Hours after the address, Somali al-Shabaab militia claimed responsibility in the Mpeketoni attack stating that it was retaliation for the killing of Muslim clerics at the Kenyan coast.
