Leaders send messages of condolence

President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent a message of condolences to the family, relatives and friends of former Anglican Archbishop David Gitari.

He described Archbishop Gitari as a true servant of the people and a dedicated leader who made a lot of personal sacrifice to serve humanity.

Deputy President William Ruto also sent his condolences. He said he had learnt with shock the passing away of the archbishop whom he had met and held talks with about two months ago.

And the Orange Democratic Movement on Wednesday joined the rest of the country in mourning Dr Gitari.

ODM secretary general Anyang’ Nyong’o said: “On behalf of the ODM fraternity and party leader, Raila Odinga — who was Dr Gitari’s personal friend — I wish to convey the message of condolences to the family, relatives, friends and the entire community of the Anglican Church of Kenya.”

A day before Dr Gitari’s death, his successor, retired Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi had remembered the former Mt Kenya East bishop while addressing a congregation at St Mary’s Church in Syokimau.
