Lugari MP Ayub Savula, 2 wives charged with theft

What you need to know:
- The MP took plea on his behalf as well as seven companies linked to him, hence he is required to pay an additional Sh500,000 for each of the firms.
Nineteen people and seven companies implicated in the Sh2.5 billion scandal at the Government Advertising Agency (GAA) have been charged in court.
The 19 accused persons include former Broadcasting and Telecommunication Principal Secretary Sammy Itemere and Lugari MP Ayub Savula as well as his two wives — Ms Gatwiri Ringera and Hellen Kemboi.
They all appeared before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and were charged with conspiring to commit a felony at GAA.
They are accused of stealing Sh122,335, 500 at GAA being public officers in the ministry of ICT using the seven companies.
The suspects were all charged with conspiring to commit a felony of stealing. The MP and Mr Dennis Kuko Chebitweyi were also charged with abuse of office, separately.
They all pleaded not guilty before being freed on varying bond terms.
Mr Savula and his wives have been freed on a bond of Sh1 million shillings or a cash bail of Sh500,000 each.
The MP took plea on his behalf as well as the seven companies, hence is required to pay an additional Sh500,000 for each of the said companies.
The former PS and the 15 other co-accused were released on a bond of Sh2 million shillings or a cash bail of Sh1 million each.
A warrant of arrest has been issued against four others who were not in court.
Five other accused persons have been ordered to present themselves before Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Tuesday at 7pm.
