Melania Trump visits children's home, wildlife sanctuary in Nairobi

US First Lady Melania Trump has visited a wildlife sanctuary and the Nest Children's Home Orphanage in Nairobi on the first day of her trip to Kenya.

Mrs Trump, accompanied by her Kenya counterpart Margaret Kenyatta visited the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s elephant nursery in Nairobi National Park early Friday.

The visit to the elephant orphanage followed talks between the two first ladies held at the White House in August this year where Mrs Kenyatta outlined her conservation efforts in Kenya.

At the Nest Children's Home Orphanage, Mrs Trump spent time with children and officials of the home which rehabilitates and reintegrates orphaned and vulnerable children into extended families.

Mrs Kenyatta on Friday afternoon hosted Mrs Trump at the State House, Nairobi where they held closed door talks over their shared interests.

Their talks focused on matters of health especially the welfare of mothers and children, and conservation, State House said.

Mrs Kenyatta is the patron of the 'Beyond Zero' a health initiative for mothers and children.

Mrs Trump is the founder and promoter of the 'Be Best' initiative designed to improve the welfare of children.

Later, the two First Ladies proceeded to the Kenya National Theatre where they were treated to 45 minutes of live cultural performances staged by Sarakasi group, a Nairobi-based dancing and acrobatic group.

Mrs Trump arrived in Kenya on Thursday evening. She will head to Egypt on Saturday morning where she will conclude her solo one week tour of four African countries that included Ghana and Malawi.
