Sonko leads arrest of nine for damage to widow's Sh10m property

Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko has waded into a fresh row pitting a widow against auctioneers over the demolition of Sh700 million property in Upper Hill.

The Senator led a retinue of his private security accompanied by armed police officers to the disputed site on Sunday night in response to a distress call by residents over a planned demolition.

Nine people were arrested during the incident involving Ms Judith Njenga. On Tuesday, the suspects were charged with robbery with violence at a Nairobi court.

DAMAGED HOUSE

They were also charged with damaging the house situated along Hospital Road in Upper Hill.

"The damaged property included glassware and kitchenware all valued at Sh10 million belonging to Brian Njenga," the Prosecutor Jackline Kilonzo said.

They have been ordered to deposit bonds and sureties amounting to Sh90 million to secure their freedom.

Mr Simon Mbogo, Mr Peter Mworia, Mr Jacob Irungu, Mr Godfrey komu, Mr Ezekiel Ndonga, Mr Robert Muguri , Mr Silas Njoronge, Mr John Ngugi Kamande and Mr Nicholas Nderi were charged with robbing Mr Brian Njenga of a laptop and Sh50,000.

The prosecution said the suspects committed the offence jointly with others who escaped arrest during the demolition.
