Most counties will be sunny and dry: weatherman

The Kenya Meteorological Department has said that warm and dry conditions are expected to continue in most parts of the country with rains expected only in the western and southern parts of the country.

KMD director Mr Peter Ambenje said that some parts of Western, Nyanza, the South Rift and the surrounding regions may experience a few days of rainfall in the next four days but the rest of the country, especially northern Kenya, is expected to remain dry.

“Much of the country is expected to remain generally dry with warm and dry conditions expected to continue in most parts of the country with only parts of Western, Nyanza, the South Rift and the south east lowlands likely to experience a few days of rainfall,” said Ambenje.

He said that the areas within the highlands west of the Rift Valley and the central highlands recorded notable increases in rainfall in the last seven days while much of northern Kenya, the south eastern lowlands, the Coast and Nairobi, except for some few evenings, continued to experience warm and dry conditions.

According to the latest five-day weather forecast by the weatherman released on Friday, covering between January 27 and 31, counties lying within the Lake Victoria Basin such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay and Migori are expected to experience mainly sunny intervals in the morning giving way to afternoon showers and thunderstorms over few places for the next four days.

A similar weather pattern is also expected in the counties of Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kajiado, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia as they are within the highlands around the Rift Valley.

LITTLE RAIN

The central highlands region, which covers the counties of Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka-Nithi are expected to experience sunny intervals the entire day throughout the forecast period but with possibilities of showers in the afternoon in some areas.

The south eastern lowlands region that covers counties of Kitui, Makueni, Machakos and Taita Taveta are expected to experience mainly sunny intervals the entire day for much of the forecast period, however, afternoon showers may occur over a few areas to the extreme south of the region in some days.

Nonetheless, North western counties of Turkana, West Pokot and Samburu are expected to experience sunny intervals the entire day throughout for the next four days.

This weather pattern is also expected in the North eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo and the Coastal strip covering Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale counties.
