Two NTV staff have scooped top awards at an international event to recognise African journalists.
NTV reporter Roseline Wangui and camera woman Wambui Kurema won the Television Feature Award for their story, Beads of Bondage, during the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist 2013 Awards.
Other Kenyan journalists awarded include Brenda Okoth of The Star, who won the Health award and Florence Dallu of Koch FM who won in Radio General News category.
The winning Kenyan submissions were chosen from 1,387 entries from 42 African nations.
The awards on Saturday were held at a gala fete at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
Twenty-seven finalists from 12 countries enjoyed an all-expenses paid four-day learning tour that included workshops, media forums, networking and sight-seeing.
“Once again the awards have highlighted the depth and strength of journalism in Africa.
These men and women have proven that top notch journalism is alive and prospering, and Africa will have its stories told to the world,” said CNN Worldwide Senior vice-president for global relations Parisa Khosravi.
South Africa’s Msindisi Fengu and Yandisa Monakali scooped the overall award.
The NTV feature demonstrated great skills in reporting, research, story-telling and effective use of TV, the judges that stood out among the other entries, the judges declared.
“Great shots, good sound and the right soundbites made this captivating story a winner,” they added.
