A member of the Nairobi County Assembly was shot and injured early Wednesday by a gunman on a motorcycle.

Korogocho MCA Maxwell Ochieng’ Ochar was shot at 6.10am as he waited for his wife in his private car at a parking lot in Riverside Estate, Ruaraka.

Starehe Deputy OCPD Abdikadir Ahmed said the gunman may have been waiting at the parking lot.

“He shot the MCA once before escaping on a motorcycle, whose number plate was not taken. The MCA suffered a bullet wound in his right hand” Mr Ahmed said.

He said police are yet to establish the motive of the attack but had begun investigations.

The MCA, who is also a member of the county assembly Committee on Planning and Housing, was admitted to a Nairobi hospital in stable condition.

He drove himself to the hospital after the attack.

MCAs have constantly been putting pressure on the government to provide them with bodyguards or allow them to carry guns.

County Assembly Forum chairman Abdi Nuh late last year argued that the nature of their job entitled them to State security.
