‘Nation’ to contest Pattni court order

What you need to know:

  • Mr Pattni was the architect of the Goldenberg scandal that cost Kenya an estimated Sh100 billion and at the weekend made frantic efforts to stop the Sunday Nation from running the exposé on the new scam.
  • On Saturday, a group of process servers arrived at the Nation Centre armed with what they claimed were court orders barring publication of a Sunday Nation article on a plot to take control of all duty-free shops in the new Terminal 4 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
  • What Mr Pattni’s agents were brandishing, however, were not court orders but a threatening letter from his lawyer Bernard Kalove, warning the Nation Media Group and individual editors and writers that they would be in contempt of court if the Sunday Nation article was published.

The Nation Media Group will challenge orders obtained by the key perpetrator of the Goldenberg scandal seeking to gag it.

The orders Mr Kamlesh Pattni obtained seek to stop the media house from exposing yet another scheme that could cost the taxpayers dearly.

NMG’s head of legal department Sekou Owino said that lawyers of the controversial businessman-turned televangelist Kamlesh Pattni served the company with the orders.

He added that the company would challenge the orders in court.
