The Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has refuted claims that the government is planning to import new uniforms for police officers.

The CS denied reports, published in some local media outlets, that there is a crisis at the police department as there is no enough fabric in the country to carter for the demand for the new uniforms.

"We have no problem providing our officer with new uniforms, in fact we have already paid for them," Dr Matiang'i told journalists Tuesday.

Dr Matiang'i said the uniforms will be made by tailors at the National Youth Service.

He added that the main reason for reviving Rivatex factory in Eldoret was to ensure that local cotton farming and the apparel industry are boosted.

In September, the government launched the revamped police uniforms — deep blue for work, navy blue ceremonial outfit and a deep blue working dress jacket were unveiled last week — as part of the change of policy in the National Police Service.
