New betting board to establish laws for sector governance

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has instructed the new betting board to hastily finalise the Draft Gaming Bill, which would capture the role of technology in the industry and provide appropriate regulations.
The Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) will see ensure proper management of the sector.
“As a regulator, your role calls for integrity and fairness at all times,” he said.
Mr Nkaissery emphasised that the role of the board is oversight and not micro management.
“As board members, you must work within the confines of your responsibilities and not to try to micro-manage the management to the extent that you become a hindrance,” said Mr Nkaissery.

The CS told the nine board members to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the code of governance for State corporations contained in the Mwongozo booklet.
