Police are investigating reports that a close relative of Michael Oyamo, who was charged with the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, was raped in her house on Friday night in the latest twist to the saga.

Uriri Division Administration Police commander Michael Ojwang’ said Mr Oyamo’s sister-in-law reported to the police that she had been attacked by unknown assailants and raped.

In her report, the woman stated that the alleged rapists broke into her house and raped her in turns before fleeing.

The woman, according to Mr Ojwang, further told the police that she was in the house with her three children when the attack took place as her husband was away in Nairobi.

Mr Oyamo is said to have lured Ms Otieno and Nation journalist Barrack Oduor to the Graca Hotel in Rongo on the fateful day before allegedly arranging for their abduction later that evening.

INFECTION

Yesterday, Mr Ojwang’ said police had escorted the woman to Uriri sub-county hospital to conduct medical tests in order to ascertain her account that she had been raped.

Initial reports had indicated that the alleged rapists had committed the offence to avenge Sharon’s killing.

However, later, Migori Police commander Joseph Nthenge said a medical examination conducted on the woman revealed she had not been raped.

“It has been confirmed by the doctor who examined her that the woman has no signs of rape and she has been noticed to have a sexually transmitted infection. Further reports will follow after investigation,” Mr Nthenge said.
