A priest who was arrested over the gang rape of a woman in Nyeri will remain in police custody as detectives conduct investigation.

A Nyeri court on Tuesday ordered Joseph Karuga Muraguri be detained until Thursday when he will take plea.

Nuru Abdullahi, the case investigating officer, requested the court to grant detectives five days to conclude investigation into the case.

He said the woman was gang-raped at Ruring’u estate in the outskirts of Nyeri town on January 12.

Mr Abdullahi told the court that he believed the suspect was connected to the crime and termed the case “sensitive”.

Nyeri Resident Magistrate Maisi Chesang allowed police to hold the suspect for two days.

The case will continue on Thursday when the court will determine whether to release the suspect on bond.
