A Standard Seven boy who stabbed a fellow pupil on Friday has been arrested, Mombasa Urban Police boss Martin Asin has said.

Mr Asin on Monday said the 14-year-old boy was arrested the same night he reportedly committed the crime.

He said police were waiting for Sparki Primary School headteacher and the victim’s class teacher to explain what happened.

“We are still investigating the matter. We need to know what made the boy attack his colleague. It might have happened accidentally,” Mr Asin said.

“They are young and we don’t want to imply that he is a criminal.”

SH70,000 HOSPITAL BILL

The victim’s mother, Janet Mayaka, said her son was recovering at home.

Her 12-year old son, also in Standard Seven, was admitted to Mombasa Hospital. The knife was stuck in his left wrist.

Mrs Mayaka said she reported the case to Makupa Police Station and was issued with a P3 form.

“My son has been discharged. The attacker’s parents must foot the Sh70,000 hospital bill,” Mrs Mayaka insisted.

The boy was stabbed on Friday evening when he and his colleagues were heading home after preps.

Witnesses said the knife was aimed at his neck but it stuck into his wrist when he attempted to shield himself from his attacker.

The attacker then fled, leaving his victim with the knife stuck deep in his left wrist.

Mr Asin had said detectives were taking the matter seriously because the number of knife attacks by boys was on the increase.

He said police officers wanted to establish the motive behind the stabbing.
