A woman claiming to be Quincy Timberlake’s mother has spoken for the first time about the death of her grandson in Australia.

Ms Rosemeg Wambitta, 57, said although she had not been close to her son, she had been saddened by his loss. She is frustrated in particular because she cannot communicate with him.

“I want to be with my son and his wife, Esther Arunga, during this difficult period but I can’t even send a direct message to him because I don’t have his contact details. He has not been communicating with me or his siblings,” she said.

Mr Timberlake and his wife, former TV anchor Arunga, lost their son on June 18, after what the couple said was a fall down a flight of stairs.

On Monday, Ms Wambitta said: “All I want is to offer moral support to my son. I know I can’t offer financial help, but I can’t be inappropriate in all areas. I’m a mother.”

She lives with her daughter, Ms Lucky Jioni, in a one-bedroom house in Manyatta Estate, Kisumu.

She told the Nation that she heard about the death of the three-year-old boy through Ms Arunga’s mother, Mrs Petroline Arunga.

“She called my relative and asked her for my contact and then later informed me about the death,” said Ms Wambitta.

Earlier, Mrs Arunga told the Nation that she had not spoken with her daughter either, and that she only heard rumours that her grandson had died.

Between September 2009 and February 2010, Mr Timberlake was entangled in a court case with the Kenyan Immigration Department after questions arose about his nationality.

He was arrested at his Runda home at the peak of the controversy surrounding activities of the controversial Finger of God Church.

Mr Timberlake was later arrested for allegedly being a member of an illegal sect.
