  • The accused is said to have killed her after they had an altercation in Njokerio, outside the university, where the Ms Chelagat lived.

  • Cynthia Chelagat said to have been murdered by her boyfriend at the institution on  February 19.

A student of Egerton University, said to have been murdered by her boyfriend at the institution on  February 19, died due to internal bleeding, as a result of multiple injuries, a Nakuru  court has heard.

Dr Titus Ngulungu, a government pathologist who conducted the autopsy on Ms Cynthia Chelagat’s body at the Egerton University mortuary, on Thursday told the High Court sitting  in Nakuru, that she had more than six wounds.

He said she had injuries on the neck, trachea, liver, lungs and stomach.

STAB WOUNDS

Dr Ngulungu further said several wounds on the left side of the neck caused injuries on the trachea and blood vessels, causing blood clots and that prevented circulation of oxygen in the body.

“The body had stab wounds on the front part of the head, on the neck, the liver, the lungs and the stomach. The stomach contained blood, while the brain was swollen due to lack of oxygen after blood vessels were injured,” the pathologist told court.

He said even though the heart was normal, the wounds bled a lot and the blood went to the lungs, preventing circulation of air.

The pathologist identified the cause of death as blockage in the air wave as a result of blood clots in the injured blood vessels.

SH300,000

Dr Ngulungu was testifying in a case in which Mr Edmond Ruto, also a student, has been accused of killing Ms Chelagat.

The accused is said to have killed her after they had an altercation in Njokerio, outside the university, where the Ms Chelagat lived.

He is in custody after he failed to raise Sh300,000 bond issued by the court.

Three more witnesses are lined up to testify in the case. The case was adjourned yesterday after they failed to testify because some of the exhibits they intend to rely on are in the government chemist for examination.

The judge set the dates for hearing of the case on November 7 and 8, but the mention will be on July 18.
