Team to probe Ndakaini Dam woes

The Water Ministry has set up a team to look into the management of Ndakaini Dam.
This follows claims of sabotage in its operations, with questions lingering on why it remains half empty despite the ongoing heavy rains.
Water and Sanitation Principal Secretary Joseph Irungu said the taskforce will have two months to file a report of its findings.
The dam is the main reservoir for Nairobi County, supplying 84 per cent of water to city residents.
The PS said the team has been tasked with coming up with a report on how Ndakaini Dam will be managed.
“It is a critical installation and we need to understudy how it has been running for the past 24 years and the report can even be a template on how we can run other dams in the country,” said Mr Irungu while on a tour of the dam in Gatanga, Murang’a County, yesterday.
He said the team would be chaired by Mr Samuel Alima, the acting director of Water Sewerage and Sanitation Development department in the ministry.
The taskforce will work with representatives from Athi Water Service Board, Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company, Water Resources Authority, Water Services Regulatory Board, Kenya Meteorological Department and Nairobi and Murang’a counties.
