Tender clean, says Lenku

The Sh12 billion tender for a security surveillance system was properly awarded to Safaricom, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku has said.

Reacting to some MPs, Mr Lenku said procurement processes were followed in awarding the contract.

Members of the Parliamentary Energy and Information Committee John Mbadi (Suba), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala) and Nicholas Gumbo (Rarieda) had questioned the legality of the tender and expressed fears that it could compromise Kenya’s security.

Addressing journalists at the CID Training School Pavilion in South C, Nairobi, where he launched the ministry’s strategic plan, Mr Lenku said the Public Procurement Act provides for single-sourcing of tenders like the one in question.

“We are aware that some MPs and other individuals are concerned about the process and we are welcoming them to see the process,” he said.

“We are transparent and have nothing to hide.”
