A lorry driver and his two loaders Saturday morning died instantly when the lorry they were travelling in rammed a moving semi-trailer along the Mombasa – Nairobi highway.

The 12.40am incident occurred at Lumu area between Sultan Hamud and Ngokomin shopping centre on the highway.

Police officers from Sultan Hamud Police Station led by the area OCPD Mr Ferdinard Nyongeza and the local traffic base commander Mr Moses Njue took two hours to remove the bodies from the mangled vehicle.

Their bodies were taken to Kilome Nursing mortuary in Emali.

At the same accident scene Saturday morning, a speeding Mombasa-bound bus overturned, slightly injuring 15 passengers.

The injured were rushed for treatment at Sultan Hamud sub-district hospital and discharged.

The driver of the Modern Coach bus is said to have been trying to overtake when he lost control due to the high speed.

The three vehicles: the lorry, bus and the semi-trailer were towed to Sultan Hamud Police Station.

Last week, more than 13 people lost their lives when a bus collided with a lorry less than a kilometre from the Saturday morning accident scene.

Police have cautioned drivers against overspeeding while driving on the busy highway.
