Justice Philip Tunoi denies bribery allegations, blames succession battles

Justice Philip Tunoi has refuted bribery claims attributing the corruption allegations against to the jostling for succession in the Supreme Court.

"I have never taken a bribe in my life, such allegations have never been made against me. The accusations are being used to malign my service to the Judiciary," Justice Tunoi said.

The Supreme Court judge has also denied having ever met the Nairobi governor, Dr Evans Kidero, who he is alleged to have ruled in his favour in the election petition filed by Kabete MP Ferdinand Waititu.

“I have never met Kidero physically nor have I spoken to him directly. I have only seen him on television” Justice Tunoi added.

“My side of the story has yet to be heard and I am anxious about the JSC decision,” Tunoi said.

The Judge accused Geoffrey kiplagat of being used by judges in lower courts to oust him from his position on the Supreme Court.

“I am informed that a group of lawyers and one judge drafted the affidavit for Geoffrey Kiplagat.

The unanimous ruling over the election of Evans Kidero as Nairobi governor was handled by a seven judge bench of the Supreme Court and was read out by Justice Tonui.
