The catholic church confirmed two people have already died due to starvation.

This was in response to the government spokesman Dr Alfred Mutua’s assertion that the government does not have statistics of anyone who has died of starvation.

“In the diocese of Lodwar we know of two people who died of starvation and were buried by the priest,” said Most Rev Zacchaeus Okoth.

The church criticised Dr Mutua for taking the matter lightly and restated that the government’s mandate is to ensure protection, promotion and fulfilment of individuals’ fundamental freedoms in the bill of rights.

Exploitative middlemen

“We need to prevent them from dying,” said Rt. Rev Cornelius Korir, as the two leaders criticized the government’s sluggish pace of buying excess food and distributing it to the needy.

They also faulted the government for leaving Kenyans at the mercies of exploitative middlemen and asked parliament to be guided by moral conscience and need to protect and promote human dignity and life.

They urged the government to utilise every opportunity to feed hungry Kenyans even using GMO foods in desperate situations.

The church appealed for food donations through its parishes and diocesan offices and KCB account number 016200646352 or Mpesa business line 560702.
