Uhuru discards parastatal reforms as new team picked

The appointments made by President Uhuru Kenyatta to various parastatals on Friday have shone the spotlight on the reforms he initiated when he assumed office in 2013.

The President had appointed a task force that was to consolidate the many parastatals, some of which were working at cross-purposes.

The task force recommended merging of several parastatals to save taxpayers money and increase efficiency. The report is yet to be fully implemented.

Little has been heard about the reforms and today the bloated wage bill can be traced to the many state organisations.

The appointments also brought in new faces from the Orange Democratic Movement while some former legislators got a soft landing.

Uasin Gishu politician Zedekiah Bundotich has been appointed the new chairman of Chemelil Sugar Company board while former Senate Speaker Ekwee Ethuro was appointed chairperson of the Higher Education Loans Board.

BOARD MEMBERS

Jubilee Party National Elections Board chairman Andrew Musangi was appointed the chairperson of the Public Procurement Regulatory Board, alongside Jubilee Party Dispute Resolution Tribunal chairperson Faith Waigwa - who now takes over as Public Procurement Administrative Review Board, replacing Mr Paul Gicheru who moves to chair the Export Processing Zones Authority.

Former MP Yusuf Chanzu was appointed member of the Board of Directors of the Consolidated Bank Limited.

Former Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu was appointed a board member of the Unclaimed Financial Assets Authority.

Former MPs Njogu Barua and Kisoi Munyao were appointed board members of the National Museums of Kenya and Export Processing Zones Authority respectively.

MAGAYA

Ms Eva Msando, the widow of slain IEBC official Chris Msando, was also appointed to the board of the Export Processing Zones Authority.

Former Kitui Senator David Musila was appointed chairman of the Board of the National Museums of Kenya.

Head of Nasa secretariat Norman Magaya was appointed to the Kenya Film Classification Board while former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga is the new chair of the Board of Trustees of the National Environment Trust Fund.

Former IEBC chairman Ahmed Isaack Hassan was appointed chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Industrial Property Institute.

Rugby great Humphrey Kayange and former marathoner Tecla Lorupe were appointed members of the Kenya Academy of Sports Council board.
