LUSAKA, Sunday

Zambia President Michael Sata, after almost two weeks away, returned home late on Friday from his “working holiday” in Israel.

His trip to the Jewish state was a subject of speculation with the opposition claiming it was meant to seek “medication”, although government has denied.

Prior to his departure, President Sata looked frail. “President Michael Sata returned from his working holiday in Israel on Friday evening. The President’s Challenger jet touched down at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 22:05 hours,” reported the private daily The Post.

Zambia Vice President Guy Scott accused the opposition of putting the country into a campaign mode by creating “a feeling like there was a looming Presidential by-election.”

His comments which mentioned “ the speculation about President Sata’s health were being peddled by “a minority tribal group from south of the country hoping to take over power” led him to publicly apologise on Friday after it caused a storm.
