Doctors have not reported to a government hospital in Uganda to examine MP Francis Zaake who is to travel to India for treatment, his family has said.

Dan Mugambwa, a brother to Mityana Municipality MP, said a team of doctors from Mulago Hospital is to examine Mr Zaake and give the government a report.

EMPTY PROMISES

They have not shown up at Kiruddu Hospital since he was admitted despite promising to do so, Mr Mugambwa said.

“We have been waiting for the doctors but none of them has come. On Saturday they said they were coming but they didn’t. [The case was the same on] Sunday. We don’t know what these people are thinking about our patient. Do they want him to die before they come?"

Mr Mugambwa noted that his brother's condition is worsening.

“He got an attack on Saturday night at around 2pm but has not been given anything. His condition is getting poorer. We don’t know what to do. We have tried to talk to the security agencies which brought him here but they say they are waiting for the report from the doctors assigned to examine him,” he said.

TREATMENT ABROAD

The doctors’ examination will inform the report on whether Mr Zaake can seek treatment abroad.

The MP was on Thursday arrested at Entebbe International Airport from where he was to take a flight to India. He and Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, were forced into waiting police ambulances and taken to Kiruddu Hospital.

Mr Zaake was immediately put under arrest in connection with the alleged stoning of a presidential vehicle.

At least 33 suspects, including Bobi Wine, have been charged with treason.

The Kyadondo East legislator is at a US hospital for the treatment of injuries inflicted by security agencies.
