Rights group sues Nkaissery, Kibicho, wants court to stop Dadaab closure

A lobby group has sued Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery seeking to stop the directive to close the world's largest refugee camp, Daadab.

Kituo cha Sheria/Legal Advice Centre has sued Mr Nkaissery and his Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.

Amnesty International is listed as an interested party.

The lobby is protesting directives issued by the two on May 6 and 10 requiring the Department of Refugee Affairs be disbanded and that Daadab be closed.

They claim that the directive is a blanket one, discriminatory, violates international laws and that some of the refugees are likely to face persecution.

They also claim the move will harm refugees and asylum seekers in Kenya as it denies them access to vital services.

They want the directive temporarily suspended.
