Kenyans living in the United States are expected to congregate in Atlanta, Georgia, this weekend for the 2016 Kenya Diaspora Conference.

The conference, scheduled for June 24-25, will take place at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

“We are expecting an attendance of over 400 people including leading businesspersons and government officials here in the US and from Kenya,” said David Ochuangi, one of the organisers of the event.

Dr Ekuru Aukot is among key speakers expected to address the conference. Others are Dr Juliana Mwose, Dr Esther Ngumbi and Mr Charles Mutunga.

The conference was organised by the Association of Kenyan Organizations Inc (AKDOI).

Mr Ochuangi said this year's conference theme is "Bridging the gap”.

“The goal is to strengthen trade and investment opportunities between US and Kenya in different sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, education, agriculture and technology,” he said.

“We shall discuss diaspora voter registration and our participation in the 2017 general elections and beyond and also discuss the implementation of the recently launched Diaspora Policy,” said Mr Ochuangi.
