Kisii University has come out to explain that it does not offer Business Administration degree programme as indicated on the Commission for University Education (CUE) website.

In a statement, the university said it only offers Bachelor of Business Management which is fully accredited under CUE and has been admitting students since 1999.

“It has been noted that programmes initially reported as unaccredited in Kisii University were actually erroneously captured in the CUE website,” said the university.

CUE has since promised to upload the courses appropriately.

The commission has also agreed to the change of names for various programmes at the university.

Bachelor of Arts (Communication media) will now be known as Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media), Bachelor of Library information science will now be known as Bachelor of Information Science while Bachelor of aquatic science will be known as Bachelor of Science (Applied aquatic Science).

The details are contained in a letter to Kisii University Vice-Chancellor Prof John Akama by CUE Deputy Commission Secretary-accreditation Prof Grace Njoroge dated April 11.

During the recent placement of students in universities, Kisii University admitted more than 2700 students.

However, four of the degree programmes did not attract students and included; Bachelor of Arts in peace and conflict studies, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science (aquatic resources conservation and development, with it) and Bachelor of Science (natural products).

At the same time, University administrators have admitted that duplication of degree programmes is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Public Universities Vice-Chancellor Committee chairman Prof Francis Aduol said the institutions need to relook at the issue of having similar programmes in this era where the number of students joining universities are low.
